As one of the contact points, the shifters are an important link between the driver and the bike. Compared to the M8000 Shifter, the operating forces could be reduced by 35% thanks to a changed gear ratio in combination with a lower cage voltage at the rear derailleur. The proven Rapidfire Plus switching logic with double-sided switchable lever (2-way release) has been adopted from the previous version. However, the M8100 shifter shifts faster with its revised interior through Instant Release. The shift cable is released immediately upon actuation of the lever, allowing the pilot to respond even faster to changing track conditions.

With the I-Spec EV version, the lever can be attached to Deore XT M8100 brake levers to save space. In addition, the assembly offers a 14 mm wide, lateral adjustment range over the new standard, and the shifter can also be rotated 60 degrees.
